Over the last few years, Delco MCL Detachment #288 Upland, Pa has become known as the "Flag Raising Detach." For the last 21 years, our league has raised a 13-star flag over Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA on November 10th, the birthday of the Marine Corps. We are the only detachment to do so. On occasion tourists in the area are invited to help in the folding of the flag much to their delight. This flag measures 12 x 18ft. The 50-star flag that flys daily is taken down and replaced by our 13-star flag at 0800 and flown until 1600 at which time we lower and fold our flag and re-raise the original 50 stars.
The United States Marine Corps Birthday is celebrated every year on 10 November with a traditional ball and cake-cutting ceremony. On that day in 1775, the Continental Marines were established.
